New Lodge Field Project:
An inaugural annual Golf Day has been arranged for the 17th of October 2008, for further details and entry form please follow these links; poster, entry form.
Held at the New Lodge Social Club on 28th February 2008, the purpose of the meeting was to communicate the opportunity that had presented itself to the football club, courtesy of the New Lodge management committee.
A PowerPoint presentation had been produced by Ceri Small with words and music provided by Roger Thomas. All team managers were present from Under 6 to Under 13, plus Chris Thomas representing the senior teams. Parents and children were present in substantial numbers, whilst Mr. Gilbert Powell represented the New Lodge Social Club.
Roger Thomas took the meeting through the basics of the project, outlining the work necessary to prepare and produce a playing surface on the land to be leased to the Rovers. The term of the lease, 21 years, could be extended by a similar term at the close of the first period. The estimated cost of the project was some £70,000.
Application to the Sports Council of Wales for a grant of £25,000 had been made, whilst the balance would need to be in place before SCW would release any sums to the project. The Rovers would need to generate £45,000 from fundraising activities and from loans from the local authority and regeneration groups. Letters had already been circulated to local businesses and the Town Council outlining the project requirements. Currently an amount of £5,500 was held in our deposit account.
A fundraising committee was to be formed in the next few weeks with an initial meeting mid March to set guidelines and an agenda for the future. If the total sum could be raised by March 2009, in all probability, football would commence in September 2010. Should we be unsuccessful in our application to SCW, this date would be extended to 2011 or even 2012. The Rovers were committed to the project, with or without SCW backing.
Further meetings and newsletter would keep parents informed of our progress.
